Iceman Nicolas keeps his cool to claim another FIFA Gfinity Series title
With Donovan “F2Tekkz” opting out of FIFA Gfinity Series March, the door was open for the rest of the field to make ground on the world number one player. Even if Tekkz been in the contest though, he would have faced fierce competition from Nicolas “FCB nicolas99fc” Villable and Mosaad “Rogue Msdossary” Aldossary, who both have fantastic records at the Gfinity Arena in London.
FC Basel’s Nicolas and Msdossary of Team Rogue met in the cross-console final after coming through the swiss-style group stage on Day 1, and then three knockout rounds on their consoles to make it to the final. With Nicolas triumphing through the PS4 side of the draw and winning the FIFA Gfinity Series January and Msdossary coming out the Xbox bracket and wining the FUT Champions Cup at the Gfinity Arena, no one could call which way the final was going.
Reigning world champion Dossary took the early advantage on the Xbox, with the Saudi man striking through a finessed effort from Kylian Mbappe. Nicolas kept his cool and responded with a brace from Neymar to flip the final on its head. He extended the lead midway through the second half of the first leg thanks to the Brazilian Ronaldo.
A Ruud Gullit got Dossary back into the contest in the second leg on the PS4, and early after half time things were all square with the main man Cristiano Ronaldo doing the business with a thumping drive from the edge of the box. Two became three in the second leg, with Neymar putting the world champ into the lead with 35 minutes to play, but Nicolas restored parity through the R9 Ronaldo which forced the final into extra time.
Eusebio got Nicolas ahead in the added period, but the goals continued to fly in with the Basel man bagging another through CR7 to seal the win. There was still time for Dossary to put the pressure on, as Mbappe put in another, but Nicolas held on in the closing stages to take the title 6-5.
The March LQE champion said: “I am happy, but not on the PS4, for some reason I was better on the Xbox! I don’t know if I deserve to win because he played so well in the second leg, but of course I’m happy with the win.”
PlayStation 4 Final
FCB nicolas99fc 5-2 Web Nasri
Nicolas booked his place in the final and took the 850 FIFA 19 Global Series points, thanks to a superb performance over the Japanese Taichi “Web Nasri” Aoki. A brace from the Brazilian Ronaldo was followed by a Kylian Mbappe strike, giving Nicolas a 3-0 commanding lead after the first leg.
Web had had a great tournament and he showed he wasn’t bowing out with two goals of his own through R9 in the second leg, but Nicolas was with him every step of the way with efforts from Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo meaning he was the PS4 king of the March LQE.
Xbox One Final
Rogue Msdossary 4-2 PSG DaXe
It was a clash between the two highest seeds on the Xbox side of the draw in the console final, with Lucas “PSG DaXe” Cuilerrier winning over a lot of fans with his artistic style at the Gfinity Arena. The Frenchman looked as if he was to reach his first cross-console final when he took a 2-1 lead after the first leg with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronalod.
Msdossary is a champion, and a 1-0 win in the second leg thanks to Neymar took the game to extra time. The Saudi Arabian turned the screw, and in the end comfortably got over the line with a strike from both of the Ronaldos getting him the console final win.
PlayStation 4 semi-finals
FCB nicolas99fc 5-4 xLevVinken
One of the clashes of Championship Sunday came between Nicolas and the Dutchman Lev “xLevVinken” Vinken. Lev took a surprise 3-1 lead after the first leg with goals coming from the head of Kylian Mbappe and efforts from Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo. Nicolas kept himself in the game, with the two Ronaldos and Neymar levelling things up after the second leg. In extra time it was the substitute Eusebio who got the winner for Nicolas, ending a promising tournament for Lev, in which he can build on for the rest of the season.
Roee Feldman 1-2 Web Nasri
A Cristiano Ronaldo strike got Web off the mark against the mysterious Roee Feldman, who was the lowest ranked player on the PS4 side of the competition. After a flurry of chances for the Israeli, Web put him away with R9 smashing a volley into an open net, but Feldman can be proud of a second leg performance with an early Kylian Mbappe goal ultimately being in vain.
Xbox One semi-finals
Rebel Stokes 1-4 Rogue Msdossary
Thomas Daniel “Rebel Stokes” Stokes did one over Msdossary in the group stage, but he couldn’t repeat the trick in the knockouts. Patrick Vieira and Neymar picked up a 2-0 win in the first leg for Dossary, with Stokes finally scoring in the second leg through his own Vieira. It was to no avail however, as strikes from CR7 and Kylian Mbappe secured a 4-1 victory for the world champion.
PSG DaXe 5-2 Hashtag Harry
This was the contest that made DaXe look like a contender, swatting aside in the in-form Harry “Hashtag Harry” Hesketh. The PSG man claimed a 1-0 win in the first leg thanks to R9 but had to ride some luck with Harry hitting the post. A Kylian Mbappe hat-trick was what got the Frenchman to the console final, with goals from Raphael Varane and Ronaldo just not enough for his Hashtag United opponent.
