Msdossary topples F2Tekkz on way to claim FUT Champions Cup April at Gfinity Arena

The two biggest names in FIFA esports, Mossad “Rogue Msdossary” Aldossary and Donovan “F2Tekkz” Hunt went head-to-head in the Xbox One final at the FUT Champions Cup April, and it was the world champion Msdossary who came out on top.

The Saudi Arabian had already got the better of F2Tekkz in the group stage, with the weekend built around the two ‘GOATs’ of FIFA esports going head to head. After seeing off Tekkz 6-4 over two legs in the console final, Dosssary moved on to face Thuillier “MaestroSquad” Corentin in the grand final.

Vitality’s Maestro had lost just once during whole tournament, but experienced told in the cross-console final, with Dossary taking the title and the $50,000 thanks to a comfortable 5-1 win.

Rogue Msdossary said after the win: “I’m feeling extremely happy because I’m on top again, and let’s say, it’s been a long time. I think this puts me back on top as I beat Tekkz twice and it feels good to be king of the jungle!”

Cross-console final: MaestroSquad 1-5 Rogue Msdossary

After seeing of Tekkz, Msdossary was the favourite, but Maestro had been one of the most consistent players all weekend. Dossary was clearly on a high after the Xbox final victory, and he came out of the traps flying with a first half hat trick from Cristiano Ronaldo against Maestro. It was made 4-0 in the second half of the PS4 leg with Eusebio smashing the ball in at the near post. Two massive chances had gone begging for Maestro at this point, and it was clearly not his day as after saving a penalty, the ball pinged around the area, only for Eusebio to put another one in for Dossary.

The Saudi Arabian just kept Maestro at arm’s length during the second leg on his Xbox console, with Dossary dominating the tie. He did fail to get on the scoresheet however, and credit to Maestro for battling, and he was rewarded with a late consolation, and took the second leg 1-0.

PlayStation 4 final: xLevVinken 2-4 MaestroSquad

So deep into the competition, the PS4 final started as a cagey tie, especially with both Lev “xLevVinken” Vinken and Maestro yet to suffer a defeat over the weekend in London. The first chance didn’t come until the 75 minute mark in the first leg, with Maestro rifling a left footed strike from 20 yards into the bottom corner with the Brazilian Ronaldo. His old teammate Ronaldinho then made it two for Maestro, giving him a nice cushion going into the second leg.

Lev found a way back thanks to R9 with a thumping finish at the near post, but Maestro responded with a poacher’s goal from Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman used his countryman once again to kill the tie in the second half, and even mimicking the PSG star’s celebration. A late goal from Lev’s Neymar have the Dutchman a chance, but Maestro held on to make the grand final.

Xbox One final: F2Tekkz 4-6 Rogue Msdossary

The biggest game of the weekend, and there was added spice after Msdossary had trounced Tekkz in the group stage with a 5-1 win. An early confidence boost came for Dossary, with the Cristiano Ronaldo unmarked in the area to fire in goal after just three minutes. A controversial penalty was converted in the second half of the first leg to make it 2-0, and Tekkz had more harsh with luck with a goal disallowed for offside.

A response as needed early doors from Tekkz, and the world number one delivered, capitalising on a defensive error to tuck it away with Neymar. Soon enough he was on terms, with Neymar poking the ball through Virgil van Dijk’s leg, and he then took the lead with R9 finishing a one-on-one. A thunderous CR7 strike levelled things up after half an hour, but Eusebio struck again to put Dossary in the lead. We went into the break on level terms with the Brazilian Ronaldo firing in for Tekkz, with the second half a much cagier encounter. Dossary got a massive goal from R9 with 20 minutes to play, and he found Pele in space 10 minutes from time to grab the winner, firing low into the corner.

PS4 semi-finals: xLevVinken 6-5 M10Ustun

Lev and Fatih “M10Ustun” Ustun are a well-matched pairing, and their PS4 semi-final proved exactly that. Neymar got the opener for Ustun, with Mbappe soon putting him 2-0 up. Lev responded through a corner with Cristiano Ronaldo heading home, and a late brace from the R9 Ronaldo stole him a 3-2 victory in the first leg.

Parity was restored through CR7 early in the first leg, but Neymar put Lev back in front. He doubled his advantage thanks to Neymar, but Ustun wasn’t laying down with R9 grabbing a quickfire brace to pull things back level. After a flurry of chances were then missed by the Danish Ustun, allowing Lev to steal a win late on.

xShellzz 5-5* MaestroSquad (MaestroSquad wins 8-7 on pens)

The Ronaldo pairing saw Shaun “xShellzz” Springette take a 2-0 advantage over Maestro, and when Cristiano made it three at the end of the first leg, this one looked all over. The comeback was launched through a snatch volley from Neymar, but there was no lack of class in the second with Cristiano firing low into the bottom corner on the turn.

Shellz came his composure and patiently played a ball in after a short corner, with R9 heading in. Half an hour was still to play, plenty of time for a player of Maestro’s quality, and the turning point came with a cynical foul from Raphael Varane earning a red card for Shellz. The resulting free kick was deflected in, and five minutes from time Maestro had parity with CR7 striking in another superb low effort from outside the area.

Shellz nodded in a corner to give him the cushion he needed with 10 men, but inevitably Maestro equalised with Cristiano again. The tie went to penalties, with the first seven from each man being converted. Shellzz Paolo Maldini cost him the tie, with his effort crashing off the post.

Xbox One semi-finals: F2Tekkz 5-2 Rebel Stokes

Tekkz was the clear favourite against Thomas “Rebel Stokes” Stokes, but the underdog grabbed an early goal through Neymar, to put pressure on the ePremier League champion. The advantage was doubled as Johan Cruyff strokes one home for Stokes, but it was an instant response for Tekkz with Patrick Vieira nodding in a rebound. Neymar got the equaliser with 25 minutes to play, as the first leg finished 2-2.

A sensational solo run and finish from R9 showed Tekkz’s class, and this encouraged him to level up his game. Two identical tap-ins from Neymar took it to 3-0 inside the first half in the second leg, with Tekkz controlling the rest of the tie to hold on to a 5-2 aggregate win.

iBattleCat 2-5 Rogue Msdossary

Connor “iBattleCat” Keys was a surprise console semi-finalist, and he impressed in the tie against Msdossary. CR7 grabbed the opener for Dossary and made it two with a brilliant free kick from Eusebio. iBattleCar responded as a free-kick of his own rebounded back off the wall for Cristiano to hammer home, giving the Brit a chance in the second leg.

An early Eusebio strike was then backed up by Neymar as Dossary raced to a 2-0 lead in the second leg, but a Ruud Gullit volley gave Battle Cat hope. The game was sealed off by a Kylian Mbappe tap-in for Dossary, booking him a clash with Tekkz in the Xbox final.
